Spotlight Ceremonies
About me
However, you may be thinking “Why her? Is this the person we want to officiate our wedding?”
Hopefully you can see my passion, and think “Hey, I think she may be the one for us!” But maybe you’re a facts kinda person. Does this person have the skills to stand in front of our favourite people and deliver a ceremony which reflects us as a couple?
Let me tell you about my day job. I’m a secondary-school teacher. There, I said it. It’s a job that everyone has a preconception of – you either loved school or hated it. It’s a bit like Marmite (although I’m weirdly on the fence about that yeasty spread). However, the skills that teaching has taught me are relevant.
Spotlight Ceremonies
Hola hola caracola! Coucou mon chouchou !
Yes, you’ve guessed it, I am a linguist (French, Spanish and a smattering of italiano), but read on to find out more…
Name: Sheila / Sheeps
Favourite animal: My bouncy, dim-witted labradoodle, Chuckles
Famous person I’d most like to meet: Michelle Obama
Perfect evening: Anything that involves friends, food and/or games
Party trick: I can actually lick my elbow (you just tried to do this, didn’t you?!)
I love to fit in, in a way that brings joy and delight to the people around me. This might be through being the first to taste local delicacies (and of course immediately declare how DELICIOUS rotten corn is and CLARO I want some more!), or being that person that spots the kid at the wedding in her pretty dress that would love to dance and go over and take her onto the dance floor to boogie the night away. I like to make the people I’ve met feel valued, important and interesting, and I’ve worked with many different people, from indigenous tribesman to Essex teenagers, from Chilean businessmen to an Italian monk. Working with a couple tickles my nosey nature and my excitement at creating a part of something that is designed to show off the best parts of people and make them shine.
- Listening: hopefully as a couple you’re not going to tell me who started the fight and why, but in my job I have learnt to listen, to care, and to get to the bottom of a story!
- Organisation: you want someone who will answer your emails, arrive on time, reassure you everything’s sorted – that’s my day-to-day.
- Public speaking: I give assemblies to 250+ secondary school students, trying to motivate some fairly lacklustre teenagers. I speak in staff meetings of 100+ colleagues. Standing in front of your family and friends to celebrate your love for each other will not faze me in the slightest, even though I will be acutely aware of the nerves that may be jittering in your boots (or stilettos, or brogues, or beneath your bare feet…).
So that’s me!
